Snake weight?

BCRHerps Mar 09, 2009 04:02 PM

What kind of scales do you all use to weigh your snakes? I plan to breed this year and obviously need the weight of my snakes first

Make sure the scale measures in metric and is digital. You want to get one that doesnt top out too low. I had a scale that only went up to like 3-4Lbs (2k grams) and Balls can get much heavier. You want to get a scale that either has a nice holder to put the snake in, or a nice surface where you can put a container on to keep the snake in, then you zero the scale out with the container only, so you measure the snakes weight only.

You can go to WalMart and find one for $20-$30 or the have website's like scales.com or whatever that have a very wide assotment.

You can start with going to eBay and do a search for "Postal Scale". You can find a nice Digital Scale in there sufficient for Ball Pythons. They weigh in Grams.

Be sure you get one that has a Tare Weight option on it because it makes it a lot easier to set a bowl on top to place the Ball in.

Get a my weigh 7001dx. You can get one on ebay for about $34.00 shipped. It weighs to about 15.5lbs. By the gram.

I personally got a ty-400 food scale off of e bay last year for under $30 and it goes up to 5k grams, which if you talk with breeders most don't keep track after 2-3k.
