Flying with Reptiles?

TruckerEarl Mar 10, 2009 07:19 PM

Just moved to California from Chicago, and my leo is currently at home with the parents. I'm thinking of buying a new cage setup here (I was in need of one anyway, some broken glass on the old cage hence why I didn't want to travel with it). I'm headed to Chicago again in a month and would like to bring him back with me in a carry on. Has anyone done this before? Is there anything I need to worry about traveling? Was thinking a small flat-bottomed bag with a heat pack would be OK for a few hours, but obviously I'm worried about security, etc. Any advice appreciated! Thanks!

I haven't tried it myself, maybe the Expo members of the group would have more ideas from experience. My suggestion though is to contact the airline and check their policy. They may need a letter from a vet as they do with dogs. Some airlines may not allow reptiles all together and you don't want to risk a confiscation by sneaking him.

Good luck!

Hey just bumping this one up...the only airline pet info I could get is about cats/dogs, it says you can carry on a pet but there's a fee? I'm guessing this applies to annoying chihuahua not exotics. Any trade show folksout there have experience with this?

why don't you just ship him like we all do when we purchase from a breeder?
