bad scare

zachL Mar 11, 2009 12:37 AM

so for the past two days in the craptacular state of North Dakota, we've been having a blizzard, i awoke this morning to find my bearded dragon toki missing from her cage. knowing her love for hanging out by the gigantic sliding door that isnt too far from her cage i quickly located her lying on a blanket that was next to said door. when i picked her up she was freezing cold, rigid, and seemed to be gasping and also shivering. i quickly drew a warm bath for her and had to keep her head above water as she wasnt moving on her own too much. the warm water seemed to do the trick and after about 10 minutes in the tub and a few minutes in the heat lamp she was running around good as new. long story short, i'm buying her a real tank tomorrow.

What did you have her in? It seems like you just have a room with a light buld pointing at the floor? Im glad to hear she is ok and hope that she doesn't run off again. I started reading and i was like i hope the door wasn't open but then after my first thought I was like why would the sliding glass door be open its cold outside! lol

i built my own enclosure, its only fault is there isnt a top and she likes to jump. for about 4 months now she hasnt escaped so i had assumed i placed all her basking spots far enough from walls where she couldnt escape anymore, but now that she's active again with spring (at least sheh THINKS its spring, really, its still -10 and just snowed about 10 inches) so i have to figure out a top for the cage.

what size is that cage? If you go to a homedepot or something like that you can buy the screen door mesh. If you build your own cage just build a light frame for the top out of some plywood or something and then staple or glue the mesh to it. THen you can just add weight or a lach so that she cannot move the top. The screen stuff is like 5-10 bucks.
