nikki2584 Mar 11, 2009 01:21 AM

i was given a leo today that this guy didnt want. She was in this tiny container that was really dirty with no type of heat or water. he also admitted that she hadnt been fed in a month. shes pretty weak but i got her to eat some meal worms and i got her temp up. hopefully i can get her into the vet tomorrow. this is my first leo so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you're off to a good start. Just make sure the environment is good. Maybe don't over do it on feeding at first until she settles into her new environment. But once she's settled in then feed her all she will eat for a while and she should gain weight and spring right back.

Keep your eyes on her skin and shedding. If she has been in a bad environment she could have had shed problems in the past.

i already had deal with her bad shed, her toes were stuck together so i used a warm wet wash cloth to break it up.

So i took her to vet, we are still waiting on her fecal test, but she does have some issues due to poor nutrition but the vet said she should get better on a regular diet. and becuase of shedding problems we found out she is missing parts of her toes.

If you aren't already, make sure she is getting plenty of calcium.

You are off to a great start in her rehab., keep up the good work.

yes i got her calcium! we got the test results back from the vet and she has pinworms so now she is being treated for that. could these cause her not to eat though? i got her tuesday night and shes only eaten 8 mealworms and 1 cricket. i had to tear the legs of the cricket, she doesnt have the energy to chase it yet

On the food, don't worry right now, just let the medication take affect, and it should make her feel better, and then see if her eating habits change.

I agree with the previous advise. Let her settle in, feed her what she'll eat. Let the meds kick in and once she seems to perk up, feed her good. My rescue's I have, I've fed high protien and fatty diets. Waxworms are good fatty treats, and once she has the energy and is doing well, offer her a fresh pinky mouse. That'll give her the boost she needs. Your doing great so far! Most important make sure she's comfortable, that'll fix the eating issue. Good luck on your rehab.
