Hi and thanks. 14 hatched out of 20. Not a great hatchrate this year for some reason tho' this is the first clutch of this female so maybe that has something to do with it. The mum is one that has kept a bit of the red colouring so hopefully these will too.

Yes, I think because Spencers come from a boom or bust area. Get them out and hatched in a good season in a hurry. Mertons on the other hand take 7-8 months to hatch. In that case they seem to lay in our latish summer and they hatch the next spring when food is around. No one has actually said but I assume the Mertons eggs diapause for a while because I can't see that it would take any longer to gestate in real time otherwise.
