Flex Watt ?

lbrat Mar 13, 2009 04:15 PM

I just got several feet of 11" flex watt from Bean Farm.
The old 11" that I have has cut lines at one foot incremants. The new stuff I just got has no breaks in the grid or "cut here" indicators. My question is can it be cut anywhere between the black heat grids?

I recently purchased some 11" flexwatt from Helix Controlls Inc. and they did all the wireing/hookups. I asked for it cut to 48.75" long wich is an odd length that doesnt match up to the "cut here" breaks. It also has the wave type elements between the conector bars. Its not the straight element type so the cut was made through a couple portions of it. Its the type that looks like this ^^^^^^^^^^^^ instead of ___________ between the conectors on each side, so it was not possible to make a cut where it didnt go through the black element heat part. They insulated the conections and allong each side where it was cut with some Scotch 3M 69 Glass Cloth Class H Electrical Tape and it works fine. The Helix guy told me that the black electrical tape would work too but they use a more expensive type thats also rated for heat. I dont believe its a problem as long as you insulate the cut.

It's not a problem as long as you insulate the edge AND make sure all cut or damaged lateral connecting ribons are either complete of fully cut, ie the zigzags are either complete or cut through completely (at at least one point). You don't want a partial zig zag making connection between the sides.

As long as you insulated with tape where any exposed traces are, you can cut it anywhere you want.
