Best way to take pixs?

boastud Sep 11, 2003 04:07 PM

I was trying to take some pictures of some babies today. Well the quality shows my skills ( or lack there of.) I have heard that it is best not to use a flast and on an overcast day. Any help would be appreciated.

i take all mine in natural light usually with soft light coming in from the window with the sun to my back, or outside with the sun to my back, i do mean when the sun starts to come down in the sky and is just above my head behind me, i find i get great pictures in that condition. outside on a sort of overcast day where the light is very soft also is a great time for great color pics, i do all my garden pics etc in those conditions.

this one is in the kitchen just away from the skylight, no flash

this one is in the bedroom with the sliding glass doors to my back, all natural light, no flash, just a nice bright room

and outdoors, no flash, sun at my back. all the pictures show different color but all were taken on a different day, different times in his life, all show the true color for that day, he changes a lot

i havnt found that taking pics in the enclosures gives a good idea of color, their lights tend to either wash them out or change their colors quite a bit from oranges to yellows and reds to oranges etc. hpe this helps a little bit

Use a tripod, I will put a rock or towel on the kitchen table and then the camera on a tripod. Most of the time on an autofocus camera it is the "shake" when you snap the shot or the autofocus that causes a blurry or just not sharp picture. I almost always use a flash as it seems to be the best way to show the actual color without the cast of indoor lighting. Also if you have manual focus available use it, the great thing about dragons is that they love to sit still. Here is a big picture and a link to some more.
