My first snake

I just got a baby lavender king and this is the first king that I have really been around. Can anyone give me tips on how to male sure he stays healthy. I heard they eat more then pythons is that true? also i am going to try to get a pic of him on here cause I was told he was a lavender but i have not saw a pic with one his color most of the ones I have saw are light purple he is very dark purple. does that sound right for a lavender?

Congrats on your new snake. There are a few different types of lav. cal king. including albinos. "Ruby eyed lavs" are albino and obviously have red eyes, they tend to be lighter. Take a pic of yours and post it.

Cal kings don't eat more then pythons considering their size, but they will feed more frequently. Pythons tend to eat large meals and then sit stagnant while they digest. Colubrids will eat smaller meals and only be inactive for a day or two. Most will eat every 4 or 5 days if you offer food.

As far as keeping him healthy keep the substrate in the tank dry, constantly laying on a damp surface can cause issues. Offer the snake a temperature range (cool side/warm side of tank), a water bowl large enough for the snake to fit into if it wants to soak, and offer a couple of places for the snake to hide.
