Question regarding croc monitor diet...

august9 Mar 14, 2009 11:26 PM

I have a young croc monitor, about 5.5' in length. His diet consists of rats right now. For those of you who own crocs, have you had success with any other types of foods? I would like to provide him some variety, if possible.

Thanks for the advice.

Why can you not feed supreem monitor diet to adult monitors as part of a varied menu. I can understand never to feed only one food item. But why is it okay for juvies and not adults.

Croc monitors... all monitors for that matter... should always be fed a varied diet. I feed our crocs rats, mice, chicks, rabbits, adult chickens, horse chunk meat, fish, quail, feeder snakes and lizards. the more varied a diet you can give them the better they will be NEVER feed monitors only one type of food item.

By the way, how big are your croc monitors? Do you have any pics of them?

Thank you.

bivittatus Mar 17, 2009 02:35 PM

The big male is about 7 foot the larger female is about 6 foot and our small female is about 4 foot and unfortunally due to zoo policy I can't post any pics of them. and as far as the horse meat goes the commisary gets it from a company in Canada I don't know its name though or if they can ship to the general public.

I've seen "canned horse meat" at some of the larger pet feed stores (no, I don't mean large chain stores like PetSmart).
