IBD and what I need to do

guttersnacks Mar 15, 2009 08:10 AM

My 4' woma is acting weird by corkscrewing it's head around in unnatural poses and what not. Until I can get it to a vet for an actual diagnosis I'll assume it's IBD. The is the only boid I own so the rest of my collection should be riskless, as I understand it. If it's actually IBD, I'm not sure I have any clue where it came from.

I went back 3 pages on the forum here and read the last big IBD discussion but wasnt able to find the info I'm looking for.

What I want to know is this....
If I have a symptomatic animal at home, what sort of precautions do I need to take as far as hanging out with other herpers or being exposed to other collections? Should I pretend that the disease is like the plague and not have any contact with anyone or anything until my woma is either euthanized or diagnosed with something else? Can I carry it? Is it as basic as "wash your hands after handling the animal" or something like that?
If I keep the woma in a room with other snakes, and I breed those snakes, do I need to concerned about the offspring carrying the IBD seed as well?

it seems the answer in "unknown" anyway.

Hopefully this is just bacteriological. The vet appointment is Thursday. We'll see.

The snake is acting 100% normal today.

The doc offered 3 options, and I took option 1.
-Take it home with no treatment and observe it some more.

Good news for sure, but......strange. All it got over the past week was a dose of higher heat than it'd had before.

Well, you were luckier than me. My first Blood bit the dust. I thought it might be IBD but it may have been another virus.
Glad your snake will pull through.
