Question concerning CRB morph

indigoblue1 Mar 15, 2009 11:37 AM

Hi there,
anyone heard of leucistic colombian rainbows? I´ve seen a pic recently, thinking of that being a hoax!?!
Anyways...supposed there´s one out there. Would you consider them being such a big deal as the lucy has been in the ball python world?
Regards,

Mathias

i have seen the pics, and the video of them and it isnt a hoax. And i believe they are in at least 3 collections so far.
Ive been researching a fair bit lately about the CRB morphs, and there does seem to be a lot out there, many more than in the BRB community. That said though, all the morphs seem to be concentrated in a very few breeders hands. I guess people, want a few in there racks before they let them go, which i guess is fair enough. Much easier to sell, 500 animals for 500 dollars, than 10 for $10000.
As for the Lucy, my opinion is that the ghosts, albinos, striped etc etc are much more interesting, purely for the possibilites with them, albino striped, patternless ghost etc etc etc.
If however, the lucy gene does something to the other animals, that could be pretty interesting for sure. I wasnt really around to see the ball python lucy craze, but i dont really get it either. Ok its a white snake, yippee, but then what, all you can do is produce more white snakes.
I believe that the lucy columbians are recessive, had they been co dom, along the lines off the yellow belly ball pythons, then i think could be more interesting.
One of the guys, who has the lucy crbs, also has a pied/calico, now im not sure of the genetics behind that. If it is actually instead a paradox lucy thrown from one of his clutches, i would find that much more appealling
Thats my 2 cents anyway

13.19 brbs

Interesting thoughts. Although I could imagine a pure white snake with nice iridescence to be a really appealing snake, I totally agree with you saying, that other morphs are much more interesting for combining them with other genetic traits.
Hopefully there´ll be an amelanistic brb in the future. That´ll be the real thing.

Mathias
