Why do my f/t rats keep exploding??

crazycodykadunk Mar 15, 2009 09:40 PM

I am not sure if its the way I defrost them or what but 1 out of 3 of all the f/t rats I feed rip apart when I pick them up or explode when the snake grabs it. The snakes still eat it just makes for one hell of a mess to clean up.

I would send an inquiry to him and find out his recommended thaw process for his product.

I myself thaw them on the counter for 6-8 hrs depending on size and amount before feeding. Although I produce and freeze my own...

Cody,
Your defrosting method is not the problem if this is occurring at room temp. Otherwise, the problem is that the rats are not being frozen quickly enough after being euthanized. The best way to check this is the slip test. Take a rat after you have thawed it and pinch a finger full of hair on the body and pull on it. If the hair comes out, or skin separates and slips easily, the rat has partially decomposed before it became completely frozen.

or they were taken to too many shows and thawed partially a few times....thaw freeze thaw freeze...they get like that....
.....putting too many in a freezer too fast will make them slip as she mentioned......

......Hamburg has alot of sellers of frozen rats....I know a few good people there....

email me and tell me who it is......I know some of them, they live around here.....

What everyone here is trying to say in as nice a way as they can is that the supplier of these rodents has less than acceptable stock. Regardless of what he does to them before yo get them, no healthy, fresh rat should rip apart.
Find a new rat supplier.
The rats you have are garbage.
