"Garbage Disposal"?

cenobite74 Mar 16, 2009 12:58 PM

So what snake would you all suggest for a disposal system when finicky balls wont eat. Say, something that can take small to medium f/t rats and could be housed in an 40L.

nothing really. You would need a bigger enclosure, but boas seem to be very good eaters. dwarf retics would be a good way to go, but they are expensive. Good luck.

I would say a rainbow boa but a 40L is way too small for an adult. These snakes need more like a 40 gallon long. Though floor space is more important than height, so a 4'x2'x16" cage would be perfect for a 6-7' long Brazilian Rainbow Boa. My two BRB are very consistent eaters.

For small rats, large normal corn snakes are a good choice too...they won't eat the medium rats though, those are too big for corns.

super dwarf retic is the way to go for garbage disposal... they're a bottomless pit!

OR... more ball pythons as suggested

Bristen.

Bull snake, they are cheap, eat anything you offer them and can easily be housed in a 40 gallon as a adult.

They are usually laid back and easy to handle, plus there are some nice looking morphs too.

That's what I call my female BCI but you couldn't keep one in a 40L like the others said. My BCI hardly EVER refuses a meal.

Black Rat. Big enough for a small to medium rat. Can fit in a 40 breeder.

why dont you just freeze them and offer f/t to your snake later?

I had this dilemma, and I brought a Mexican Black Kingsnake.

No more leftover mice. Ever.

Plus, it's a really beautiful snake.

They are vorace and always ready to eat, but I doubt mine would have took a medium rats, a bit too big.

May be a Cal King would, since they are usually a little bit bigger.

What about an indigo ?

Indigo's eat like bottomless pits but are extremely expensive.

I have no experience with cal kings, but I always though they were smaller than MBKs. I've seen 5 foot MBKs, but not Cals.

childrens pythons. super sweet and curious dispositions and eat great. of course they are small, so wont chow down 5 left over rats, but they are really great snakes that do not take up a ton of room.

my angolan pythons eat incredibly well also.
