2 down......BHPs clutches

derekroddy Mar 17, 2009 09:06 PM

I'm always so nervous this time of year.
Yesterday, while I was waiting on a female BHP to lay......I decided to get some drum practice time in... while I waited.
Well, nothing on the female that I was waiting on but....the female that was due NEXT week....laid while I was jamming and I didn't even notice her doing it.

I noticed that she was awful quite and still in her cage...I opened it to find her coiled around 9 big fat healthy eggs.
Now..... out of panic...I didn't take any shots of her on the eggs. She laid them right on the damn Melamine under the paper and I was afraid that they were stuck to it.
So I quickly got them out and into the incubator.

Thankfully, this female is smaller......I don't like letting them lay without me being there to take the eggs and get them into the incubator. The eggs are SO big that if one of my big girls lays and coils....I'll never get them in a container! Haha.

Anyway...all is well and that female that supposed to lay.....should be going today.Haha.

And since I got only this picture of the eggs....I'll throw in a few things to look at.
This is the girl I'm waiting on....

Woma lookin good to lay very soon.

And Valentine..not going this year....Boo Hoo.

Cheers,
D.

Congrats on the BHP eggs! They are beautiful. What is the typical incubation temps and time to hatch for the BHP/Womas?

Cant' wait to see hatch pics!

I fluctuate the temps from year to year... with no results leaning one way or another.
Although, I did notice (and another breeder mentioned to me) that lower temps had better feeders.
Usually, mine are 64 days at 88-89.
Cheers and thanks,
D.
