Basking temps...

ooanwfndglryoo Sep 11, 2003 05:57 PM

Hi....I'm having trouble getting my basking temps up to the correct temperature. I am using a 100watt house incandescent bulb for my heat bulb in a spotter with a ceramic fixture that is placed on the screen ontop of my 55 gallon tank. Any help would be greatly appreciated =)

if the temp is too cold, move the basking spot closer or go for a higher wattage bulb, if its too hot move the basking spot further away, or get a lower wattage bulb, i have found that if the basking spot sits somewhat to the side of the center of the basking light you can get lower temps if that makes sense to you.

I just got my temp up to 107.4 on the basking log....I had a 100watt housebulb and a twist uva/uvb bulb...I replaced the uva/uvb with a 50 watt basking spot bulb from petsmart and now I'm getting a good basking temp. I plan to put a 100watt mercury vapor bulb on the basking site within the next few days. I currently have no source of uvb does anyone see any problems with JUST having the M.V. bulb for uva uvb?

I don't see a problem with using just the mercury vapor bulb as your uvb source. I don't think anyone would disagree that the Powersun and ActiveUV bulbs give out more uvb than any flourescent bulb on the market.

i think it might help if the household bulbs are clear....i use 150 watts and if im not careful, itll get up to 120 degrees
