This girl came out of a clutch that hatched this week.
Fresh out of the egg on Wednesday:

After post-hatch shed also on Wednesday!:

She's not the only one with odd markings from that clutch either!

That really is a gorgeous patterned Western. I assume that the parents are normal Westerns? Thanks for sharing!

Thank you! I like she looks great! Both parents were indeed normal.
That looks very interesting! I would love to see more of the clutch. Do you believe this could be caused by an incubation spike?

Some others look similar, such as this male:

However some look 'normal':

Man!, I've never seen a diamond back hognose! Thanks for sharing!! Jeff
Am I the only person that noticed the light centers in the blotches on the back of this guy? Sweeeet! Jeff
Nope! I like the description you used: Diamond back

Sorry about the poor photographs, I didn't realise untill after that I'd taken them with the camera set to 'vga' instead of 5MP!

So only 7 eggs out of that huge swollen momma?
Great looking group. I'd keep them all and see if you have something genetic. It sure appears at this point that this may be the case.
Would you mind shooting some pics of the ventrals if anything is unusual?
What was the total number of days incubating?
thanks,
KR

Thank you,

Well the female actually produced around 25 eggs, however she had some problems with egg binding and didn't pass them all. Myself and the vet tried a few things and as a last resort, surgery to remove the remaining eggs, however she died the following day. =[
I'm really not sure what if any I'll keep. Maybe them all for the moment. As for it being genetic, that would be great! But what are the chances of that? Both parents looked pretty normal.
I believe this is number 3 after it 'died'
:

And 4:

42 saw the first slit, by 49 days all had left the egg
What temperature did you incubate them at?
28C
Awesome looking babies
But in my opinion that temp is a little high? I usually incubate at around 26C. In my experience, the babies are bigger and stronger, and I very rarely have feeding problems with babies.
Sad to hear about the female. But crossbreeding back to the male would be fun to se what hatch out

The temperature I incubated at was well within recommended limits that I got from various caresheets and breeders.
