Not shedding

viper9 Mar 22, 2009 10:44 AM

So I brought my Cal. Kings out of "hibernation" about a week and a half ago and while the male is about to shed, the female is showing no signs. Any ideas how long that might take or why she might not be shedding?

Thanks
Mike

She will shed in time. My chihuahua female took six weeks to go into shed after being warmed up.

Did your's still breed successfully that year?

Thanks

Not sure how successful they were yet, but they did breed and are still going at it.

I should definately wait until she sheds though right? I've heard that is when they are the most receptive.

Thanks

I waited but I do not think that is an absolute rule. My female was not receptive until after a feed. When I first put them together the male chased her around and was biting her trying to hold her down. She was having none of it. I left them together and the next day gave her a f/t mouse and teased her out of her hide with it. After eating the mouse she stretched out and let him have his way. I think he agreed to buy her some shoes or something also.

Lol. I'm sure it was something like that. I've fed her 2 times since I woke her up. I think I might try putting them together tomorrow if they will still breed.

Thanks
Mike

I had to wait until both of my speckled kings shed until they paired up. It took the female about three weeks after I woke her. As soon as she shed I put the male in with her and they went at it. I also left the skin in her cage, as you probably know that help stimulate the male as well. They both had eaten several times before they shed. I did try putting them together before they shed and neither one was very interested. Hope that helps a little.
