FedEx Feed back needed!!!!

micky-kennie Sep 11, 2003 07:58 PM

Has anyone shipped FedEx? Do they allow lizards as a policy, or would I have to lable them perishable (instead of live harmless lizard)? I am going to ship my leopard geckos that I recently sold from Ohio to Baltimore.(I'm going to use the money for an ambanja panther!) I was thinking of shipping them via fed ex priority over night. It says it will be there by 10:30am the next buisness day. Does anyone know if this is a good idea? Any feedback would be apreciated. Thanks!

Ok, you caught me on a bad day, but please know that this pertains to Fed Ex Ground...essentially the same company...but still slightly different...KWIM?

Anyway, I ordered that enclosure for our Carpet (remember...part glass and part screen with glass around bottom for substrate...big package) and it was coming from WA state to FL. Well, bummer that it was supposed to take a full week for it to get here, but I can deal with it. It was shipped on 9/2, and I'm STILL WAITING! It was supposed to be here on the 9th...it was late anyway, then they tried to deliver it to the wrong address...so they correct the address...still not here...I've called 4 times to try to get someone to find it. Now, they say it will be here tomorrow. I'm not a complainer, but I'm demanding a refund! This is rediculous. I rarely get things via Fed Ex ground, but I remember twice before this having the package arrive late and them having to track it down for me.

Anyway, sorry I can't be more help about regular Fed Ex...but I think I needed to vent too. When I saw "Fed Ex" I about died! LOL!

Good luck shipping your kids safely...hope it turns out well.

Fed ex ground workers are not unionized, they are independant driver, unlike UPS. Not all fed ex ground drivers drive he same trucks, many own their own trucks, or rent them.
There was good reason for this, but I don't remember, it had something to do with Unions, Fed Ex ground, if combined officially with Fed Ex, there would be problems for some reaon...but that's not important....

BECAUSE the drivers for fed ex GROUND are esentially "on their own", thye do not follow the same schedule one might expect. For instance, if you love in a rural area, the driver might wait until he has a full truckload of packages going to your area before going there, instead of wasting his time going all the way tere for one package--remember, they're on their own time, not the companies, they get paid by deliveries, not hours, so it makes sense to prioratize deliveris. It does suck for rural/remote locations, which in that case, go UPS.

My father's buisness deals with both, getting deliveries and shipping out UPS and fed ex ground. Ups ground, at least here, is horrible on packages, they break things that are packed to surbvive a 10 foot drop...I know, I used to work there...

The way I understand it, this was a big mistake...they didn't try to give me any explanation...they gave the delivery date, missed it...missed it again...and missed it again. Soooo...I think it was just a screw up. They've apologized again and again...you know, the old "I'm very sorry for your inconvenience" bit.

What you say make sense, but I'll definitely never use Fed Ex Ground again (well, after this, I wouldn't anyway)...if they can just deliver the package whenever they feel like it, that's just wrong...you pay for delivery within a specified time frame...people count on things to arrive on time.

Sorry that this Fed Ex thing has gone off topic...we'll get back to cham's.

Now, after being 3 days late, I call and find out that the enclosure is broken. Back to square one. I've contacted the people, and they're going to get going on another one for me...and this time I've asked them to ship via UPS! (not that they're perfect, but for some reason I've had better luck with them)

They didn't even have the nerve to call me to tell me it was damaged...I had to call again to inquire as to whether or not it was going to be here today. I wonder how long they were going to NOT call me to tell me.
::::::VENTING:::::: Thanks for listening...sorry!

But that is just my expereince. I pack for durability though.
I use 3/4 thick styrofoam or a very tough insulating foam when I can find it. I go to home stores or places that sell construction materials for it. I als retape all edges and corners with a thick packing tape. Progeckos.com has a good section on shipping lizards.

Although we attempted to be objective in this article--we would recommend UPS Next Day Air Delivery--just our two cents worth.

Good luck.
