Hides and breeding

dave15run Mar 23, 2009 10:08 AM

Should I remove the hide in cages where the snakes will be breeding? I am seeing pictures I snakes breeding and mine just want to stay in their hides. I have two pair together and have never seen them hook up. I would appreciate some advice.

Not sure how everyone else does it but,I always take everything out of their enclosure when introduced, including the water bowl.I like to witness a positive hook-up at least one time to log on my calendar and maybe snap a pic! Jeff

Not all corns are enthusiastic about breeding. I've had a few circumstances like yours, and in those situations I leave the snakes in the same cage for 3 to 5 days. While appearing to crave the security of their hideboxes in the daytime, they may very well breed at night. When using this method, I'll seperate the snakes for 3 days, put them together for 3-5 days, and seperate them again, using this rotation until it's obvious that the female is gravid.

Most of the time corns breed after both the male and the female have had a post-brumation shed, so that's something else to consider.

Thanks for the advice. You always seem to know the answers I am looking for. I can always rely on you and Draybar for good advice. All four of my snakes have shed after being cooled. They have all been with each other about four days. I guess I will know in a two weeks if they are gravid.
