What should I do

snakesnhotsauce Mar 23, 2009 05:01 PM

I need some help deciding what to breed my females with.
I have a (blazing)blizzard, mack snow, albino mack snow het blazing blizzard, tremper sunglow, jungle tremper sunglow.

I can't make up my mind on what males to pair with them to getthe best outcomes.
thanks for your help.

These are my females when they were babies. Are much bigger and much nicer color now

So these are all females correct?:
*blazing)blizzard
*mack snow
*albino mack snow het blazing blizzard
*tremper sunglow
*jungle tremper sunglow.

If so, answer some questions for me please....

1. What strain of albino is the blazing blizzard?

2. what strain of albino is the albino mack snow?

3. Is the albino mack snow 100% het for blazing blizzard? This is confusing because, the "blazing" part refers to "albino", but that particular gecko is already an albino and therefore cannot be het for that same strain.........are they different strains? Or is it just het for blizzard?

If you are just planning on buying one male.....I would suggest any kind of Tremper albino, because all but one of your females is carrying an albino gene.

If you plan on buying an assortment of males, let me know and I'll tell you the best matches (In my humble opinion)....but usually pairing "like to like" and breeding geckos of the same morph is the fastest way to create offspring that display those morphs.

thanks for getting back to me. I'm gonna answer your questions and hayseeds to make it easier.

I made a mistake my regular mack snow not the albino is the 100%het blazing.
I am just working with the tremper strain albinos.

I would like to purchase a few different males, and posibly another female.

Im looking to hold back a few and sell the others. Space is not an isssue i have many extra enclosures and room to seperate the males.

Okay, that makes more sense now.

Well, since you are working exclusively with Trempers, then that is what I recommend looking at getting. However, you really only need one (or two if you like) carrying the Tremper gene, because one male can be bred to multiple females.

............this leaves you with other options for other males. A blizzard should be of consideration since a couple of your females carry that as well.

A male Mack Snow is always a good choice, since half of their offspring should ideally be more snows when hey are bred to any gecko.............when they are bred to another Mack Snow, there is a 25% chance of producing a Super Mack Snow.

*And [Super Mack Snow X any "non-snow"] = all Mack Snows
*And [Super Mack Snow X Mack Snow] = 50% Snows and 50% Super Mack Snows
*Also [ Super Mack Snow X Super Mack Snow] = all Super Mack Snows

You can also make combination morphs like patternless albinos, blazing blizzards, snow albinos, etc.....what exactly do you want to produce. Give us an idea, what you personally want..........otherwise I'm telling you what I want.

Ok well I definately am gonna get a male tremper thats a given lol...
now if I were to get a male blizzard and breed him with my mack snow would i get blizzards and mack snows?

and....

besides making more of what i have are there any different males i could go with that will make color morphs not just normals...( i have read that if you put two different morphs together you end up with all normal looking babies het for both morphs.) I am interested in enigmas and the r.a.p.t.o.rs n a.p.t.o.rs

Nice gecko family.

I would agree that breeding "like to like" is probably the best approach. But it depends on what you would like as the outcome. Which ones do you like the best? And what do you plan to do with the babies? Keep them or sell them? Blizzards, snows, and sunglows are all good and you could certainly sell the babies, or you could sell some and hold back your favorites.

I would also say it depends on how many males you want to deal with. You could have one male and breed him to a few different females, or you could have a male of each type, but then you have to think about how you would want to house the males. You can't keep males together. I also find that after breeding, I really need to separate the males out, to give the girls a break and let them regain some weight. That adds to the space requirement for housing.

I'm not very expert at choosing the best pairings, but my opinion is that if you only want one male, then get an albino of the same strain as the girls. Or, if you really like one type best (like the sunglow or snow) then get a male of the same type.
