Post egg Laying Feeding

RussBates Mar 23, 2009 07:55 PM

Do most/all female balls after laying eat like there is no tomorrow? Mine laid nine eggs of which only 6 were good but since then she has been a trash compactor. She flies out of her box and eats everytime I show a rat to her. Tonight she was faster than me and grabbed my wrist leaving a few teeth marks in my hand and wrist. I need to label her box as she has almost gotten my face a couple of times while opening boxes. She means business.

How often are you offering food and what size is the food item?
You might want to offer her bigger and more often.

Medium rats twice a week.

Russ,
They do EAT after laying -- and I FEED mine. I offer one small rat the first meal to get their digestive system going. After that point I offer 2-3 prey items once or twice per week. After about 4-6 weeks of ravenous feeding, most will have put most of their weight back and I go back to 1 rat per week. Make sure they have good belly heat to digest and plenty of fresh water. Watch those fingers!!!
