Water python

viandy Mar 23, 2009 11:12 PM

Not sure what caused it, but I went on a python binge recently. Here's the adult male water python I got.

He seems surprisingly small to me. I talked to a successful fuscus breeder who has seen this pair, he assured me that they are big enough to reproduce.

I'm feeding them well and have been introducing him into her cage.

If they produce that's great. If not, I'm still crazy about them. They are the first Liasis I've gotten. What took me so long?

What caused it was you figured out how cool pythons are

The thing with male snakes of lots of types is that they can be a fraction of the size of the female and be of breeding size. I have a male sanzinia that weighs.... maybe 500 grams. He's completely willing to breed with the female that is twice his weight and probably needs to double her own weight to have a slight chance at reproducing.

Congratulations, and yes- what did take you so long? Liasis are my FAVORITES!

Over this past summer, my male fuscus stopped eating, but the female didn't skip a beat. While my fuscus pair are siblings, she is now probably 2-3x the size of the male!

The fuscus are like miniature, speedy olives! If you like the fuscus, you HAVE to take a look at the olives!

Don't worry, I do take a look at them. It will be easier when they're out of quarantine and into regular cages. But rest assured,

I am looking at them pretty often!
