Ball Won't Eat

Renotz Mar 24, 2009 11:41 AM

It has been over a month since he has eaten. He shed on Saturday night. He was eating small rats when he last ate. Due to his sudden non interest in food, I tried a mouse last night, which he apparently became friends with and would not eat it. Should I be concerned?

good to be concerned, but a month is nothing. if he has good weight, was eating good before and you have not changed anything, leave him to his own time schedule... he'll eat when he wants.

as a secondary issue, if you want to keep him eating rats for you, don't offer mice. many balls will take the mice and never switch back to rats. i see people on here saying there ball python used to eat rats, now it only eats mice - don't give it the option and it'll never become a mouser.

Take a look at this thread that was posted not too long ago containing just about everything one needs to know about dealing with ball pythons who are not eating:

They go off feed every now and then but one day they will pick it right up again. It is amazing how long these guys can go off feed and hardly loss any mass. Just keep offering food and one day the on switch will kick on.
