Codom Hypo Checkered

brhaco Mar 25, 2009 05:31 PM

Here's a quick pic of my gravid female Hypo T. marcianus. This is a new mutation that is inherited as a codominant gene. She has mated multiple times with the pictured normal male (locally collected here in Kendall Co., TX), and is swelling nicely....

Brad.That is crazy!! jeff

Thanks Jeff-I think so too! It's really an interesting mutation-it has a very similkar effect as the "Stillwater Hypo" gene in Bulls. It seems to remove melanin from all areas of the snake EXCEPT the black markings, which are intensified. I would say it was the same gene, except that it isn't a simple recessive.

It will be interesting to see how that pair up with the granite gene.

Brad,

Beatiful snake ! Good luck w/ her, do you know if the hypo babies are easily discernable from normal babies at birth?

Scott

Scott-

Yes, I saw a pic of a full clutch, and the difference was quite easy to discern. The hypos really stood out.
