1st lock up in 09 of my triple hets, both het for amel, carmel, and stripe. I have been putting them togather since first of Feb. and nothing, absolutely no interest in the females by this male, but tonight I started to put him in with her and noticed that after he had taken one wiff of her and before he had even left my hands his hemipenes were half way out. I knew that was a "good sign", so I watched and within a minute they were locked up, not even putting up a chase from her. He went from zero to hero. This is a fun pair to breed because they produce such variety clutch. Last year was her 1st year and she laid 11 eggs, all hatched. This year she is much larger so hoping she will lay more eggs giving a better chance to hit the odds on one and produce a butter stripe. Wish them luck!

Best of luck. I can't wait to see the variety that will come out of this clutch. She should definitly lay a larger clutch than she did her first time around.

It should look a lot like this but hopefully even more variety.

Thanks Jimmy, ya the butter stripe is now a quest for me, if I hit on the butter stripe I think I might change directions a bit and get some of the bloodreds, lavender bloods, and try mixing those two with butter stripe, to see what I get...maybe thats been done already? shrug?

Sounds intersting. I have a similar project coming up when the snakes are old/big enough. I'll be pairing up lavender mots with butter mots. Same thing that you're going to be doing, just mot instead of stripe. Best of luck to both of us!

boxienuts Mar 28, 2009 11:50 PM

Yah man, I think it will be interesting to combo up lavender with carmel and amel, color wise, and then throw in blood, stripe, or motley, pattern and voila' something purdy and far removed from wild type! If it's been done already I would like to see what the results are? Or Can you imagine those 3 color genes combined with the new Tessera pattern.....whooh off the charts!!! I get easily excited about the possibilities lol!!!

The possibilities are endless. That's what's so fun with these snakes. The best part about breeding corns is that you get to 'play'. I love clutches that hatch out multiple morphs. When a clutch only produces one thing, well, that's boring. I love to try to see what kind of funky genetic combinations I can come up with.

Just have fun with it.
