Or did you get them so you wouldn't have to punch. Thats an awesome looking monitor!!!!!
They're so you don't have to punch. But when you do the fist carries the extra weight of the ink, so its a 2 way win. Nice ink and awesome monitor.
Sorry he nixed the female.
I only have my two small ones but they have never done anything malicious towards me. A little token huff & puff, that's it.

This is a picture of the female he killed, she was much nicer looking than he is.

I sure hate that he killed her. I think the offspring would have been incredible.
How are the Dumerils coming along? I still think the world of them. I am wanting to get some of them in the next few years. Hopefully uscb.
I did pick up a pair of Dumerils boas at the Daytona show. I really like their patters and personality.
Later Rich.
Gene
Thanks.
I put my adult male dumeril's to sleep earlier this year. The female I have had for 9 years or so is doing well and I just bought a young wild caught male for her.
I am also raising a couple of her offspring and they should be ready to breed next year.
Congrats on the dumeril's boa's, they look nice. Unfortunately, I have never met a snake that didn't bite me, so I am not a big fan of them. My daughter has a cornsnake that she loves and has never bit her. The little sucker has bitten me three times.
That's pretty darn funny. Not to make light of your situation but I have a taste of how you feel. I have all these big, bad, sca-wee monitors and what do I get bitten by?
My freakin corn snakes. I bought a pair of Okeetee corns because I really dig the natural beauty of the animals. Forget all this morph, amel, hypo, motley horse crap. Just give me the plain ole' everyday pattern & colors. Those are pretty enough for me. So what happens........I get the deli cups, open them up, WHACK!! They have barely slowed down since.
What I find really ironic is one of my other snakes should be doing that to me (according to a lot of people) and isn't. This is my little "chainsaw" as it was called by someone else. I am really enjoying having him around.

Hey thanks for the pic.
He's kinda homely, though. Where'd the rest of his nose go? J/K
Was he WC as an adult, or hatchling? just curious, he does seem very bad tempered for a rudi. (hahaha, what the heck do I know, anyway)
No really, (this is for Gene), the differences in rudi head shapes are amazing, and have just got to be due to locality, and genetics, rather than sex. I will attempt to get pics of my males' heads, but they are total opposites. One has a very long thin head, the other is very short, like rsg's.
I have only one female, she is average. hahahahha. One thing I noticed, she cannot inflate her throat half as far as the two males I have, and rsg's, can. It would be interesting to see if that was a secondary sexual characteristic.
Later, gotta go get pizza.
D.
My young BRNs had completely different looking heads. They have started to become more similar though as time goes by. You may be on to something with the throat inflation though. Both of my little one's can sure can huff & puff but only one of the two does the throat like that.
Later, I gotta uh go do uh, well crap. I don't have a darn thing I have to do
Gene
Big, ugly, nasty, wild caught adult, but lots of fun.
This is a picture when I first got him.

Sorry, but I'm just so thrilled right now.
I actually got a picture I had taken with my new camera, got it into my computer somehow, RESIZED IT, and got it onto the forum, all by myself. It took me an hour, but Holy crap, I feel like I can do anything now!!!
Anyways, here is a pic of some real young rudis. hahahaha
The cut open egg is one that died at about 110 days, it had no skin, but you could see innards and bones. The most recent casualty at 140 days, had skin and toenails. I don't understand at all how they could be so different in development, but they were. I apologize for boring anyone with this stuff, you've probably seen it many times.
Believe it or not, the upper eggs were all the same size as the lower ones before. Who would think an egg could change size? Do snake or gecko eggs change size? I can't wait to get some snake eggs. I'm jealous of how short a time they incubate. I'm wondering if the pressure from the high water content, has brain damaged the babies. If they hatch, and want to hang out on my lap, and eat gyros with me, I'll know they lost their brain cells.
Cheers, D.
Yup, eggs grow over time, if they turn round instead of oblong you are headed for trouble. Those eggs in the picture grew a lot.
I would love to see a close up picture of both fetus' removed from the eggs.
I noticed the egg containers are out in the open air on a counter. When I got my first clutch of dumeril's I used to look at them everyday, candle them, etc. I was given really good advice that I will pass on to you...." You cannot make a bad egg good by messing with it, but you can sure make a good egg bad."
Congrats on the new camera, I hope to see more pics.
Good Luck
That's reassuring. Not that I messed up the eggs, but that my hunches concerning them were correct.
Like I said, I have not asked anyone for advice on them, I want to hatch or kill them by myself. I had a bad feeling a month ago when some started to round out, and yep, the round ones are the ones that have popped. There is still hope, as some haven't taken that shape.
These are poor excuses.. but, I took that pic when the temp in here was real high, the drop (if any) was slight and brief. The eggs have been getting a draught of new air everyday since being laid, perhaps that is stupid/unecessary, but I don't want to stop it now. Other than a drier substrate, I don't want to do anything different at this point. I don't know how to candle something, and am not interesting in touching them at all, actually. They came out of a lizard's butt.
But yeah, I hang my head in reproach, I won't photo them again.
I will try hard to post the closeups. The new camera was a cheapie, I doubt they will be clear. I should have waited and gotten a more expensive model.
D.
Someday, I will figure out how to size them correctly.
The burst one was pictured after decomposing a day, as it took me awhile to decide to move the others. It was nicer looking when 'fresh'.
I got sidetracked.
What kind of issues did the male develop to make him kill the female? That's a pretty extreme shout for help.
Any ideas? Did he ever really accept her as a cagemate? Did she ever go off food? In hindsight, could you have prevented this?
Sorry for your loss, and his.
D.
It was only two weeks after introduction. I have a 10'x4'x4' cage that I put the female into, then introduced the male after a few weeks. They seemed to get along okay, both were eating well and the female even looked like she was cycling.
Next thing I know she was dead.
To be honest, I have no idea what went wrong. I have introduced quite a few wild caught monitors and this is the first time something like this has happened.
He is one of the nastiest monitors I have ever met, maybe he is just set in his ways.
I think hes one hott studd lol, nice looking monitors sorry about the female, anyhow mines just a baby and hes sweet as can be hopefully he dosnt turn out to be some tail whipping finger eating bastard lol
