*URGENT* HELP! - Corn Health Question

corythreatt Mar 26, 2009 09:12 PM

I know this isn't the cornsnake health forum but I need help. I noticed a few days ago that our 7 month old corn looked like he needed to poop. he hasn't pooped since the last feeding 2ish weeks ago so I held off another feeding to see what happened. I noticed tonight that there are still a few small lumps (noticeable when held up to the light) and his back end seemed kinda limp....didn't wrap around my hand like our other corns.

I attempted another feeding tonight and watched the cnake try to take the pinky. i noticed that the right side of his mouth isn't opening. the left side opened. there isn't any noticeable infection or anything that could be binding the jaws together or any odd protrusions that I'd think would accompany a broken jaw (not sure how that would have happened anyway). He keeps scraping the right side of his head across the bedding....

I'm lost and more than a bit concerned. What should I do? I'm not sure if any of our local vets treat snakes. Repticon is near me this weekend and I'm planning on attending. Should I check with someone there?
Any advice would be appreciated. This is our #3 corn with no problems from any so far. There's still a feeding response the poor guy just can't eat.

I'm willing to take phone calls if anyone can ask me the right questions to figure out what's going on...

Thanks so much...

Several things.

First of all, start by telling us about your conditions. A seven month old snake should be big enough to eat hoppers not pinkies so I am already concerned.

What is your humidity like? It sounds like your snake is constipated. Increase your humidity and soak it in shallow luke warm water for about an hour several times a week.

The mouth is the most concerning. The first thing that you need to do is open it and look inside. The side of a toothpick works well to open their mouth. If you see nothing out of the ordinary I would just give it some time. If you don't feel comfortable making that call or if you see any crusts, blood, cheesy puss you should really find a vet.
