Beautiful boas! What line(s) are they from?
I was under the impression that Northerns and Belems were the same thing. Are you saying they're different?

lrdj Mar 27, 2009 10:12 PM

Norther Brazilian red-tail boas ( Eugene Bessette bloodline)
Belem, Brazil red-tail boas (Gus Rentfro Bloodline)

Are you saying they're different?

They have different phenotypic variations

I thought that one was a Bessette line. I have a male that looks very similar. I also have a group of Dyer animals too. Brazilians are gorgeous.
So if thery're different, where do the Northerns originate from specifically?

lrdj Mar 28, 2009 07:01 AM

Good point.......
So if thery're different, where do the Northerns originate from specifically?

In the late eighties, Eugene Bessette purchased Northern Brazilians which had provenance to North Brazil & entered the U.S.

The Belem, Brazilians from Gus Rentfro, comes from animals directly imported from Belem on the Atlantic coast of brazil.

I also have a nice group of Eugene colony, Lemke/Jack Dyer, and Floridaredtails Northern Brazilians.....My favorites!!

Here's one for you, Orlando. Nice looking animals you have there.
How's it goin', Bill. Haven't spoken to you in a while. Hope all is well. The Brazilians that are named "North Brazilians" came from a shipment brought in back in the eighties. There was no data as to where exactly in N. Brazil they came from. The Brazilians that are designated as being from Belem came from a different shipment that Tom Crutchfield brought in (I'm pretty sure on that fact but not 100%). These boas were specifically from the Belem area. From that shipment, animals were purchased by Steve Hammond as well as others. The animals in that shipment had many different "looks" to them. It's from that shipment that we get our Belems today. The boas from Brazil have many diffrent appearances and what we have in this country is only a very small sample of the highly variable appearances of the BCC's from Brazil. Take care.-----RON

How are you? Hows that big Hammond doing? All is well here, thanks.
Always nice to see some great looking N Braz's posted. Don't you wish Brazil was open?!?
Cheers, Bill

Everything is good with me. The Hammond Brazilian pair is doing fine although I wish they weren't so big - clean-up is a b****. Been really building up my arboreal collection lately. Haven't taken any pics in a long time. Hopefully, when the weather gets a little warmer I can get some outside pics. I have some Floida Redtail animals purchased from Brian Abrahamson as babies that will probably shock a lot of people. I'll be attempting to breed 2 pairs of them this coming year. Take care and stay well.------RON

That one is killer, Orlando. It's nice to see other people keeping Brazilians. There aren't that many out there compared to the other locality BCC's and being that Brazil closed it's doors to exporting them back in the 80's, it's up to the people here who have collections of them to keep them alive in the hobby. They're my personal favorite too. Take care and best of luck with any future breedings.----RON
