Does your BP do this???

bigbearhook Mar 27, 2009 07:32 PM

My 08 male Mojave Ball python seems to enjoy "standing" up and looking around. Sometimes he does this for a minute, sometimes for up to 30 or more. I took him to a herp vet. She checked his lungs and mouth. No RI. He just does this. Sometimes he stands up to 4 or 5 inches off the ground. It's weird. I once saw a pic of another mojave doing this but no other morphs. Do yours do this???

Yes,

All mine do that when I have a mouse or rat awaiting them. Only at night as well.

i have a male bee that did this last week when i had him out. He stayed that way for several minutes and i don't think he was looking for a rat. Maybe just smelling my dogs on the air? I thought it was odd as well.

i see all but 2 of my 6 do this at night about 2 days before and up until feeding time. I think it's kind of cute..

Its normal ball python behavior... problems with a URI would have the head (nose) pointing almost straight up. That posture is just the snake checking things out in his area, especially if they have to look over things that would block their view if flat on the ground.

Here is a photo of one of my 07 female blushing mojaves looking around.

I have seen this behavior with my ball pythons when I have put them on the ground. They seem to want a birds eye view of what's going on.
I hope you're having a great season.
