Gravid Rainbow Boas

Jeff Clark Mar 28, 2009 12:29 AM

These first two PICs are my gravid Argentinian Rainbow Boa, Epicrates cenchria alvarezi. She has laid litters in may the last few years and seems on course for delivery about the same time this year.

These next nine PICs are my three 2005 female Peruvian Rainbow Boas, Epicrates cenchria gaigei. All three are gravid and have palpable egg masses. These three weigh between 4 and 5 pounds each and so are not carrying large litters. I expect their litters around july. Two of my older Peruvians may also be gravid but they are too large to palpate individual egg masses.

These next two PICs are Canuma. She is a Brazilian Rainbow Boa, Epicrates cenchria cenchria. She was born here in 1997. This is her first time gravid in several years. She weighs approximately 7 pounds and has around 18 palpable egg masses.

These last two PICs are 04F27, another BRB. This is her first time gravid. She is not real big and seems to be carrying around 13 babies.

Jeff,
In a perfect world my wife would one day come to me and say 'Hey, why don't you get yourself another one of those big-ass enclosures and pick up some more snakes'? At which time you'd announce you've finally got your Peruvians to throw some babies and were just dying to trade me for some of my pick of the litter Brazilians.
Hopefully you'll hold up your end at least.
Those are beautiful Peruvians (think I've stated that before).
Thanks for sharing,
Paul

Paul,

Let me know when this happens so I can live vicariously through you. Those Peruvians are a "must-have" in my "perfect world."

Thanks,
Ed

Very nice! Looks like you are going to have your hands full soon! I really like the looks of the one in the last couple pictures.
