How long?

snakeeyes1618 Mar 28, 2009 08:45 AM

So I was cleaning and moving some animals around and in the confusion I accidently put a male(proven) with a female. I had no intention on breeding this year. I checked on all the animals the next day and found them in the same bin. They were not locked up and on different sides of the rack.....i have been observing my female....she has shed since then...and has gotten pretty plump....I keep feeling for eggs and I am not sure if what i feel are eggs or her just ovulating.....She is still eating...and acting failry normal.....this happened in feb. and fyi I live in FL so i didnt really burmate although my herp room does drop in temp about 5-10 degrees.

Anyway my question is how long after a hook up do they usually go into prelay....and then lay?

Thanks in advance.

Corns usually lay eggs about six weeks after a successful breeding. They typically have a pre-egglaying shed 10 days before laying eggs.

"Defiantly" not gravid. . . Does that mean she was dead set against being a mom this year?

Sorry for poking fun at your mis-spelled word, but sometimes typos turn out pretty funny.

HA yeah no spell check kills me.

But to answer you question she is doing that whole twitching thing. Even when i go in there and touc her she will twitch liek crazy. Is that her being receptive or does it mean get away?

I'll defer to the experts on that. I have only bred snakes twice so far. But, in my limited experience the twitching only happened when I put the pair together, followed immediately by mating.

I have had males twitch with males, females twitch with females, I have even had both sexes twitch with the introduction of a new type of substrate or even a new hide.
I think that although it is used to stimulate during breeding, it can also show stress. Stress caused by something new or strange introduced into it's territory. Be it snake or decoration.
So, don't always connect twitching with breeding or male/female interaction.
