Calico boa & O/T pics...

Shane Kinney Mar 28, 2009 02:28 PM

I was downloading some old pics and I thought I would share a couple pics of this cool calico boa that Scott Seavey of CV exotics had. This boa looked like it had been rolled around in fine cypress mulch or peat!

Here's some pics of some gators from the St.Augustine Gator Farm
This one's throat was really yellow which doesn't quite show here

Just chilling in the heat and humidity of Florida!

Is it feeding time or what?

I really want this one I'm holding!!!

Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!

Wow that is a cool boa, pardon my ignorance but how is the calico different from paradox? Cool gator pic's as well.

I've heard that if it's dealing with Albino genes (which the one shown seems to be), then its considered a Paradox - and Calicos are the freaked colored ones that don't have the Albino gene as a factor . I don't have either, but just sharing what I've heard. It also makes it easier to differenciate between them this way.

Joel, I haven't produced either, but In my mind paradox and calico boas are one and the same and tend to pop up randomly and in some lines often involving hets. I don't know of any that have proven to be genetic as recessive, dominant, or co dominant or anything.

AWESOME Calico! How long have you had that one?

Nice looking Boa but this is where I get confused "?"
I think that Boa looks like a Paradox Albino Boa
yet it's labeled Calico What's the scoop ?

Thanks

Scott was calling them calicos, but like I said, I think calicos and paradox boas are basically the same thing.

I produced a Calico/Freak boa in 2006 ... pic attached is from 2006 ... I need to take a current pic because he is really wicked-looking now.

I simply called it a Calico/Freak because that is what Ralph had called his, and mine also came from a DH Snow female bred by a Snow male. By the way, I am considering him a DHet, and does in fact carry the Kahl Albino gene.

I do not not consider the Paradox and Calico to be the same, primarily due to the background of the parents ... but given the dialogue on these forums, I can see why everyone is confused (including myself). I consider Paradox's to have the random black pigments and different parentage. I also believe Scott's has some Hypo influence in it, which makes if different from what Ralph and I have. (I asked Scott about this at Daytona)

What does all this mean? I really don't know, but thought I would simply throw out some pieces of factual data to try to draw upon.

Also, I have not actively used my male in any breeding up to this point ... he has seen some courting, but he has always been trumped by another male. I do have some 2005 Anerys Het Albino/Snow (males & females) that have considerable "white blotchyness" ... the came from a different litter than my Freak, but sired by the same male Snow.

This is similar to what Jeff Ronne was talking about with Paradox Anery and or Ghost Boas.
They show a body that is completely Anery Looking ,with a tiny
splotch of reddish color on the tail Blotch
Yours sort of fits that Paradox Anery Look ,
but not completely.
Very interesting Boa
