Florida Kingsnake wont eat... *Pictures*

limpert Mar 28, 2009 02:46 PM

I've had my Brooks Kingsnake for over a year now and his is over 3 feet long. About 8 or so weeks ago he was bitten by a mouse on the nose and has become timid during feeding. Although this happened, he would still feed regularly on live adult mice. Then he had mites which he got from a pet store (long story) about two weeks after he was bitten and I treated him in a Betadine bath followed by Mineral Oil on his nose and eyes.

2-3 weeks/feedings went by with no problems until it was time for him to shed. About two weeks went by before he had shed and I felt it was time to feed him in which case he constantly turns down food. I have tried frozen/thawed mice and rat fuzzies and of course adult mice.

I noticed his neck looks irregular and figured it might be something more than stress related.

Maybe something on the skin of the mouse caused an allergic reaction? Do snakes get allergic reactions?

Ya it looks infected but the bump/crooked nexk is what bothers me more. The swollen chin I have seen before and usually goes away but the bent neck I havn't. That is why I think there is something seriosly wrong with that snake or it had some sort of accident to fracture the neck.

The neck really isn't bent, It must just be how the picture looks

thats not good a vet check is in order for sure imho. coulda picked up a nasty from the pet store mites. i would def. keep it far away from any other snakes until checked by a vet, crypto and ibd can be transmitted via mites.
good luck and keep us posted.

That looks like it could be a rather large abcess to me. I would take that snake to a herp vet asap. One of my kings wouldn't eat a while back, and it had a lump on it's side. The vet quickly diagnosed it as an abcess and surgically removed it the same day. The snake was fine and started eating again. Your snake appears to have abnormal growth closer to the throat region though, which concerns me. Best of luck! Keep us posted.

I believe that the problem may be something similar to this :

My question is, I already figured out that it will cost me around 42 dollars just to have him examined, does anybody know a ballpark amount of what reptile medications cost? or maybe what medication for these symptoms might cost?
