Nice. Was the first snake I kept as a long term "pet"

Todd, that TX Glossy is awesome. How big is it now and how big was it when you collected it? Thanx for all the pics. Slow-growing aside, I think the fact that these Arizona elegans ssp are not very popular as captives has kind of endeared them to me. They're like mini Cornsnakes w/out all the morphs.
This is a pic of a California Glossy. Here in CA we've got three Glossy ssp. We'd just got skunked @ a popular Riverside Co. cruising spot and we pulled onto the freeway to head home when my friend Rick (Desert Rat) says "There's a snake". He pointed to this snake 2 lanes in on the I-10 w/ a big rig barrelling down right on top of it. Believe it or not the rig straddled the snake, and I raced out on the freeway to save this knucklehead from the oncoming traffic and certain death. I took these pics @ a rest stop.

My friend Rick ended up keeping this guy and I'm looking forward to seeing him again as our herp club should be having an exhibit soon.

That's a good sized one! This little one was given to me by a friend last year (Dec.) and it has grown almost 2 inches. It is off pinks and on fuzzies.

The Mojave Glossy (A.e. candida) I got 2 years ago is eating large fuzzies as well.

Certainly not taken this past weekend! The cold weather must have gone into Mexico. Bummer..
Matthew
Is that the ramp near the water that is of a certain light color? Popular cruising spot, lol. A friend of mine found a rosy on that same freeway spot. What the heck are those snakes thinking?

Glossies can be a pain in the but when that's all you see on the road.lol One night I found 12 Glossy snakes in Borrego and thats all I found that night. One night at Whitewater a few years ago I hadn't seen a snake all night, then after a few hours I finally found one in the middle of the road. Yes, it was just a Glossy. lol I do enjoy seeing photo's of Glossies that look different than ours from out of state. I also enjoy finding the odd balls, like a 42" Glossy near Whitewater, and this striped Glossy last year in Borrego.

Mark, a Rosy crossing the freeway is worth shutting down all traffic for, not to mention risking life and limb.
Ross, I too have had an almost "all Glossy" night. Early Spring '07 my friend's got cabin fever and instead of flipping he wants to go road cruising. Despite telling him it's too cold and a full moon, I go along w/ him. The Glossies, 7 in total were outdone only by the Mojave Greens (13).

Yeah, they seem to be the most common desert snake around. I just with they showed a little bit more variability within our area. Its still nice to find the not so common looking ones though.

That striper is really nice!
