Nic boa yearling size

mcalexander Mar 29, 2009 04:55 PM

I'm looking into purchasing a yearling nic boa female that is 250 grams. Is 250 grams good growth for a yearling, or lower than what should be expected. I have no experience with them, so thought I'd ask for help.

Thanks in advance.

In my experience, 250 grams is a well fed yearling Nic.

My yearling Nic weights range from 106 grams to 322 grams. The 106 gram female is a bit of an anomaly though. She's 4 years old and only 38 inches long.

Most of my (farmed) Nics were about 125 grams at a year old.

My Captive bred Nics were closer to 200 grams.

I pulled a female hypo (low expression) nic out a petco 5 years ago. she eats 1 or small rats a week and is run close to 38 inches at 5 years old. I also have a male hypo (again low expression) that came out another petco back in 06. he eats OK eats adult mice ever other week or so ( i offer them ever week but he could care less). me might be 16 inches. he was produceing sperm plugs this year so i put them together but they just ignored each other. I've seen adds every know and then for true dwarf nics always wondered what was going on with those. Have you ever seen any adults of the "true dwarf nics"?

Here's a shot of my girl. She's an 05 (590 grams), and hasn't grown much over the past year. I tried to measure her after taking this picture which was taken in the beginning of March. The best I could guess her size to be was 38 inches from snout to the tip of her tail.

I have one male that seems to be following the same growth (or lack of growth) pattern. He's an 06.

And then there's this 04. He's holding strong at 42 inches.

The rest of my (older) Nics are more like the size of this 05 male(4.5 lbs).

Now, if I paired that last Nic with the first one, he's probably split her in half! If he didn't crush her.

I got a few shots a few minutes ago of that little female with the biggest male (same one I'm holding in the other picture). He's in shed so I couldn't really "pose" them.

I've only seen adult pictures online, and that was many years ago. Thanks for your input. The sizes you listed will be especially helpful. I did end up purchasing the animal.

gosh..i haven't replied to a post in ages.lol...its been at least 1.5 years.

anyway.....i typically sell my smaller sized nics to folks as pets

... have i had a few that i thought were true dwards? sure...but could they simply be stunted somehow? maybe they miss one or two essential meals when in shed or maybe they're just picky feeders.

OR

maybe they come from a different habitat/region than the larger sized Nics. Afterall, Nicaraguan is one of the poorest countries in c.america. I doubt the people that farm Nics are really looking at where the nics originate from in the wild. i've had nics that come in that look identical to corn islands...could they be? who knows for sure? plus there are east vs west coast varieties....could there be genetically isolated populations??? probably...i'll tell ya what though...you wouldn't catch me down there doing that study.lol

Either way, Amie's pic of her small female is exactly how almost every small nic looked that i've ever had. they have a much more distinct pattern i think.

i just don't know if anyone wants to take the time to work with what my possibly be true dwarf nics when they can work with all the proven morphs instead.
