OMG unexpected eggs

marineangel Mar 30, 2009 11:57 AM

I have two balls that I thought were both female. The large one just produced five eggs this am. I have nothing to harvest these babies. Could they be unfertilized? I havent researched breeding on these guys. I am actually breeding Dumeril's because they have live births. Where do i start? what should I do?? h

whew after a little research, these clearly are not fertilized and I don't feel any more in her. Looks like I'm in the clear. Is it normal for a sexually mature female to lay unfertilized eggs?

do you know anyone with a incubator?

if not..go buy a Hovabator incubator, remove the eggs carefully from mom and get them warmed up to 89 degrees. look through the forums. there are several different ways keep them in containers. 1 way is to put the eggs in moist vermiculite in a Tupperware style container. keep them at 89 degrees with about 95% humidity

you dont have much time

In general balls won't lay eggs unless they've been introduced to a male. Candle them -- if they are pink and have veins they are good -- if they glow yellow without veins they are likely bad. If you can't find an incubator it's ok to let her sit on them until they hatch.

Good luck!
