Escaped Mt. King found.........

Coach Mar 30, 2009 08:53 PM

One of my boas got out and crawled into one of my racks. As he made his way behind he pushed out draws until he found a comfortable spot. The 4 Mt kings in the draws took a tour of the room and I was able to find 3 of them the 1st day. The last one had avoided me for 3 days until today when he turned up. Unfortunately my male goini, who was also liberated by the boa, .... found him first.

I really loved that Mt king, The 4 are 2.2 holdbacks that I produced and raised. When I found the goini the damage was already done.

Soak it in boys, that's prob one of the few times you will see a goini eating a Mt King

Really sorry to hear that man.

I'd kill that $%$%#%^ snake.

Not really, but you know what I mean.

Some sort of punishment is due. Lizards? Ringnecks? Dusty, oily substrate?

Coach Mar 30, 2009 11:32 PM

That goini is an awesome snake and was only doing what comes naturally to most getula. I have only myself to blame over this event.

rwindmann Mar 30, 2009 11:43 PM

You're going to easy on him - I'd shove him back in his shed, flick the lights on and off all night, fill his water bowl with gatorade, pet the water snake while he's looking, etc...

markg Mar 31, 2009 03:09 PM

Yeah, and then give that boa a firm smack on the neck for pushing the drawers out, lol. I like the watersnake idea!

Oops, hit return to soon. To Coach, sorry about the situation. I had a young rosyboa do that and pushed out two drawers in a hatchling rack. All rosies luckily so no eating of one another. Darn boa family. Took a month for one of those babies to show back up.

Sorry for your loss Tom... But, just think of all the money you saved yourself on feeder mice!

Hope to see you on the 19th..

Mike ,
Can you believe that. Those Mtkings were ready to go but I was going to wait till next year based on size and wt.
I will not see you on the 19th as we are headed west for a month of herping vacation. I'll catch up with you next show.

Malays Apr 01, 2009 12:52 PM

Yes only doing what comes naturally but still a painfull thing to see

metalpest Apr 06, 2009 10:49 PM

I'd blame the boa! I had a boa escape and open up some boxes during her rendezvous as well.

OUCH! That's gonna leave a mark! Coach, I am glad you posted this, I hate it when bad things happen to good people but maybe some of the newbies (and oldbies) will not feel so bad when it happens to them, at least you have the holdbacks. I am sorry, the goini seems to have taken it par for the course.

Todd,
I still have the original pair and now 2.1 holdbacks that I will breed next year. That hurt , finding them that way. I have to say though that those goini are also fabulous snakes and that male is top grade. I have 2.1 goini plus some awesome babies from last year. I also have a large group of annulata I've been hording for years now ( I know you like them ). Hope to see you in alterna land this year. I will be in Sanderson for the May full moon. ( Tom )

antelope Mar 31, 2009 11:51 PM

Coach, stop hoarding the anulatta! LOL! Yep, I lost a nice bogey to the Great White splendida 2 years ago, dang it! he didn't get a spankin' but he didn't get no raspberry ripple ice cream that night I can tell you!

I hope I don't see it again. I hate to loose it but once I saw the story was over I let the goini have his meal. I'd like to see it benefit the goini as there is no other good to come out of this,... aside for maybe an educational experience. ( Tom )
