Speckled king morph questions.....

herpster82 Mar 31, 2009 06:14 PM

Hello, I was hopeing to get some answers here regarding Hypo vs Lavender speckled kings. Short & sweet is there a diffrence in the 2? the ones Ive seen that were so-called lavenders have red eyes like an albino. Have recently purchased some that I thought were lavenders, but do not have RED eyes, would that make them HYPOS? If so I could I produce more morphs?

any input would be awesome.

Short and Sweet... There are no HYPO speckled Kingsnakes.

The Speckeld Morphs are:

Lavender Albino (T-Positive) (ruby-red eyes/ lavender-brown color/yellow specks)

Amelanitic (T-Negative) (Red eyed and white with yellow specks)

"White-Walled" aka White-sided speckled kings (very white along sides and nose/ varied stripe down the back)

I know the morphs,I just questioned these lavenders I just got reason being they DO NOT have red/ruby red eyes. They have normal colored eyes. They were sold to me as HYPOS,I knew they were lavs. & needed some more adult breeders for my own speckled collection. Are you saying there are no HYPOS that have been produced and sold? Or there are not the correct morphs/genes to produce a hypo period? Thanks for the input man, alot of ppls knowledge on this subject on any snake overwhelms me.
I'll get pix posted ASAP,these guys are really light skinned too.

herpster82 Apr 01, 2009 10:30 PM

Sorry forgot to ask, If they dont have ruby/red eyes, but normal eyes, are they still lavender albinos? if not what are they? Im just very intrested because Ive nvr heard of a true HYPO either...but also have nvr seen a lavernder albino with nornal colored eyes.
Thanks again.

ZFelicien Apr 01, 2009 11:02 PM

If you have "Lavenders" (laveder-looking) with Normal colored eyes... I'd have to say hypo would be the proper term. BUT I haven't heard of Hypo specks. try looking at them in natural light maybe you can't see the ruby-red.

Please post pix, I'm very interested in this.

Here is the pic of the hypo speckled king that I sent you. I never really new what a lavender was but I'm guessing it is a "coined" name for T or T- albino. These kings have normal colored eyes as Joe has said. He will have to post a better pic showing the eye color as this is all I have.

Bluerosy Apr 02, 2009 12:26 PM

That is a lavender T positive albino. They have been around forever.

Who all are working with Speckled King morphs?

I know a few who have the whitewalls, but what about the T and T-?

All these recent holbrooki posts are giving me the fever again.

Isis Reptiles usually have both lavender and Amelanistic specks in the classifieds. (as well as White-walled/White-sided specks).

Well that snake looks like a Laveder albino to me!

However i do see what you mean about "dark eyes"...

I'm at a loss... looks 100% lav! try shinning a light (flash light) in the eyes at different angles.

Last thing i can think, get a Lavender from another breeder and do a test breeding.

Red eyes on some snakes are harder to spot:

herpster82 Apr 03, 2009 01:54 PM

Yes,indeed it looks 110% like LAVENDER to me as well, but compared to my other lavz. its like night & day as far as the eye color goes. I have tried flashing lil led lights..etc..etc. and cant find the RED that should be in there. I've done as you said, and have put them to my redeyed females. Lets hope I get some more with normal eyes, to see if its a gene that sticks.
Thanks for all the input.

antelope Apr 03, 2009 01:42 AM

Thomas, I'd call that a speck, if you think they are subspecies anyway. I see specks on not every scale but do not see whole colored (yellow) scales.

Ive tried in every light I have access to,however I did'nt take pix in all the diffrent lights.Frankly I see no need to there is no RED in the eyes. That is a beautiful whitewall!

antelope Apr 03, 2009 02:06 AM

and you have a speck that has no red eyes! How cool is that?!!!
