New Pseustes Cage.

tokaysrnice Mar 31, 2009 10:00 PM

I just finished building this cage and am pretty happy how it turned out. It's 4x2x6 and is heated with a 11x40 RHP. My Male Pseustes and Roy's female seem to be enjoying it.

Very nice setup! I am very pleased with the results, too! Great job! Now that you are an expert in cage design, can I order 6 to go, lol!

Awesome Nate! Really, really nice. The Pseustes look very content in there.

Now that's craftsmanship!!!!!!!!
Very nice and the snakes are looking GOOD!. I love the way they display themselves as if they were in the wild. My Cribos prefer to be up high also. Well done!

tokaysrnice Apr 02, 2009 10:32 PM

Thanks Bobby!

How much vertical are you giving your Cribos? My two BTs seem to climb around a bunch in their 18" tall cages and I'm sure they would make use of a lot more. I hear YTs like to climb even more. From field posts of all the Drymarchon it doesn't seem strange to find even couperi in the trees.

Looks awesome.

If you have a temp gun, could you take readings from the top to the bottom of the cage? I'm just curious about the thermal gradient. Love big enclosures like this.

tokaysrnice Apr 02, 2009 10:15 PM

Of course I have a temp gun.

Temps go from 95-90 at the top, 85-80 2/3rds down, 75-70 halfway and 70-65 on the bottom. I plan to add two more hides in the 85 and 75 range to give them plenty of options. My house stays at 65 right now and I'm sure will get warmer as summer sets in, perfect for a little cycling.

Very neat - thanks for the info!

That's an awesome cage you put together. I've been dieing to get a hold of some Pseustes to work with, right alongside my Spilotes.

Those are some good sized monsters you have there. I wish you guys luck on breeding them.

Thanks man...lets see you Spilotes

WrathRaptor Apr 04, 2009 06:40 PM

This is my male. Pulled him out just to snap a few pics of him a few days ago after he shed. He still had some cling-ons left so I soaked and peeled those. He's a good 7 feet rapidly coming up on 8. My female is still in shed right now, and I wish I had some better pics of her,, but all I got are some crappy camera phone pics I took when first got her last fall.

Nice looking Spilotes

Here's my female

None of my snakes ever have bad sheds. What humidity do you keep them at? I also provide a humid hide all the time. Maybe it was just a fluke.

I try to keep the humidity at no less than 80%, but its a screen top on the cage, and I haven't been able to safely cover up some of the screen to help with humidity retention. But I spray them down 2-4 times a day, depending on my school schedule.

But this is the first time she's had any difficulty shedding, all her previous sheds have come along nicely. And I live in Colorado, and as humid as my apartment is to begin with (I keep a lot of tropical herps like ratsnakes from southeast asia, and poison frogs and Boas) it still dries out really fast. The problem is that she isn't really trying to peel the skin off at all. So I'm gonna peel it manually tomorrow after 15 minutes or so in a warmish shower.

I'm pretty sure she'll be fine after this, I just wanted to give her the time to take care of it herself. But it looks like I'll have to intervene.

But that's a gorgeous female you have there, quite the high yellow.

I don't have a humid hide in the cage yet though. Just haven't been able to grab any replacement sphagnum moss yet. Waiting for some cheaper bulk bags I can buy at the local greenhouses instead of paying for the more expensive stuff in the local reptile shops. But it should be coming in soon.

That cage looks awesome! I wish you tons of luck. My poecilonotus are being a real pain.

tokaysrnice Apr 05, 2009 12:33 PM

Thanks Gavin, doesn't look like to much of a pain.

tokaysrnice Apr 05, 2009 12:42 PM

For the Bird snakes

Made out of solvent welded PVCX

also picked up this bird water dish, I plan to add another 1 or 2 of these I want these snakes to be able to drink as much water as they want.

Thanks for looking,
Nate
