Hello ... that is one beautiful girl ! Thanks for sharing What is the disposition of Texas Checkereds ?? Are they calm or hyper or a bit spastic like the FLA Similis ?? Are they out alot or prefer to hide ??

thanks !

Actually they start out flighty, but calm down very quickly, especially females. One big advantage is the effortless transition to rodent feeding-even wild caught adults usually will take unscented nestling mice immediately!

They are pretty bold, but will use a hide so I always provide one....

Hello and thanks for the response ... I mean are they out and about, kind of hanging out during the day or do they prefer to hide ?? My Red Spots were NEVER out (burrowers pretty much) unless they were hungry ) whereas Pugets were ALWAYS out seemingly watching the goings on in their environment. My E.Blacknecks, always out but up high in the branches in their enclosure. How would you rate the Hypo Checkereds in comparison ??

thanks

I've kept several garter species, and I'd have to rate checkereds as among the most outgoing-the female Hypo is almost always right at the front of her enclosure watching me whenever I am nearby-she seldom is completely hidden in her hide box....

Wow, all of my garters are incredibly outgoing, even my similis!! (in a grumpy, love-hate kind of way)... but I have to hand it to my Radix, they are the most endearing garter snake there is!! Marcianus and sirtalis sirtalis are definitely just about equally outgoing as well. But then again I never used to see the cyrtopsis, vagrans, concinnus, similis, pickeringii or even the infernalis until i switched all my enclosures over to basking areas. Now I see all of them, all the time, and nobody is shy anymore!!! I never thought in a million years my similis would ever do more than peek at me from some dark hole!!
