Quick update... (been awhile)

Hey,

Just wanted to tell everyone whats going on... First of all I've had some pretty good improvements as far as the sick animals are concerned. A couple of them have normal looking feces as well as weight gain in both body and tail... All in all I lost three babies due to whatever was infecting my colony(s). As for the Necropsy, well it will cost me a minimum of $275.00, and since they dont take post-dated checks I'll have to wait until this thursday to send off the animal. All the vets I've talked to and that've had my fecals checked by seem to be leaning away from cryptosprodium, and heading in the direction of something else.. The Necropsy will tell the tale. We will see. I've also found out that Crypto isn't airborne, UNLESS the animals are in an area thats very, very dusty. Thus leading to dusty fecals and the lifting of the oocysts (sp). Another reason why both vets are leaning away from crypto is the fact that all my animals are captive bred pets... I havent introduced a new lizard in over 2 years. They also tend to think that if crypto was being found on the crickets, especially from flukers, then they'd know about it. I have to wonder if it is something knew... Again the Necropsy will reveal the facts... Now onto a better subject... I've recently hatched out three more beautiful blazing blizzard double hets... that I plan on using for next years breedings. Along with the hets, I've hatched out 2 more Brant line Super Hypo Tangerines as well as another nice looking Patternless... All babies seem to be doing great, and no-one has gotten symptoms since late June, early July... I want to thank all of you for your help, Especially you Starling. You've been a great help with all the emails that I received and I do appreciate it... Well the Necropsy gets sent off Thursday, so by Saturday we should have a definite answer... Bout time...

Did you ever try antibiotics, or did symptoms resolve without treatment? Are all animals recovering now, or just some? Good luck, and glad to be of help!

Hi Sarah,

As far as the improvement, well its mainly been seen in animals that had more body weight to them when it all began (june). So I think that the added nutrients have played a big part in this whole ordeal... And sadly, no, not all of my pets have gotten back on their feet. I wish it were so, but its not. Although there are lots and lots of normal feces inside my baby tanks, they are still very, very skinny. The ones that've improved were about a month older then the little guys. So that tells me that whatever was there, is still there... Maybe just kinda weakening, or loosing its grip on some of the more vicarious animals. Another thing that was pretty noteworthy in my eyes, was that some of the improvements were noticed shortly after my cricket cages were thoroughly, thorougly cleaned. I do clean them on a regular basis, but this was one heckuva cleaning that I did. So I think the parasite, or bacteria was actually hanging around my feeder tank. Maybe a wild guess, but hey, it made sense to me... To this date they (the vets) still haven't given me any antibiotics to try. All thats been used was Panacur and Flagyl, as well as a bottle with a mixture of both... All had no affect. I'm going to start treating select animals with small amounts of Sulfadimethoxine to see if I see an kind of improvement with this kind of medication.... Not to sure if it'll work, but I'm gonna try it... I think my Vets will be alot more willing to try newer products once the results from the necro. comes back. I hope so anyway. But I hope I filled you in on the situation a bit more, and if there is anything else you'd like to know dont hesitate to post or even email me... That goes for everyone and anyone that's read these last posts as well. My email is ragnew04@aol.com...

See ya,
Richie
