MY FEMALE IS THROWING UP?!?

pidgejen Apr 02, 2009 06:53 PM

Hi,

I just heard this horrible sounds, and it sounded like someone was dry heaving, and I turned around, and my female ball was like couching, and clenching her mid section...she just did it 3 times, but nothing came out... do you think she will be ok...

Ok, I was really nervous when I typed that. I meant to say that my female ball was coughing**.

I fed her a larger than normal baby rat last week. Her brother had the same size meal, and he pooped just fine. She has yet to poop.

She also freaked out yesterday when I looked at her, and curled up into a ball, hid her head, and puffed up really really big. It was like she was inflating her self. I thought she was going to explode.

She's on substrate...coconut husk bedding. She just yawned, and her mouth looks pink and clear... there is no bubles or mucous coming from her mouth or nose...

now she's exploring her cage like she's never seen it before... for the past few days she hasn't really been very active. In fact, yesterday, when I came home and was looking at her I had a silver coffee mug in my hand and I think it scared her because she snapped into a ball, and started puffing up her body really big. I thought she was going to explode! but then she started to calm down...

I just opened her cage, moved her hide, and found poop in there... so, hmm... maybe she wasn't trying to puke?

I think regurgitation usually happens a few days after eating, not a week, but I could be wrong. She could have strained eating a larger rat, or got a piece of substrate. As for the the curling and puffing up, you didn't state her age but she could be broody. Even in snakes, the maternal instinct can be strong. I'm sure I'll have fun made of me for that one, lol.
