Passive Resistance??

KevinM Apr 02, 2009 10:37 PM

AAAGGGHHH!!! I am totally frustrated with my last hookup this year!!! I am trying to pair my male butter striped with a female normal het. anery/amel (snow). This is my only female out of my four breeder females that hasn't shed yet since coming out of brumation the first week of February. She is getting huge near the posterior end and I think she may be ovulating, but no shed. The male is an 07 and had successful intromission with two other amel females this year. This is his first year, so if he is fertile, I will have amels and amel stripped/motleys all het for caramel (butter). At the last minute I decided to pair him with this normal female to get some normal hets to work on a caramel stripe project. She isn't really running from him, and he gets to the point where he is lined up with tails twining each other, but can't quite get there. Is it possible she is passively resisting him, or is he just possibly that stupid?? As mentioned, she isn't necessarily running from him, or not allowing him to get that close to the deed. Its really FRUSTRATING!! I am hoping an shed is close at hand and all will be resolved!! Has anyone else experienced this, and is there any hope????

Thanks!!
KevinM

I've seen corns chase each other around and not observe a lock up and then end up with a good clutch of eggs! A lot of times they'll do it when you're not around to observe them.

I agree. Why not just leave them together for a few days?

ditto this one! I've put snakes together for breeding, and while some are rocking the rack so to speak with their actions, other pairs seem to do NOTHING at all, but I get good eggs from them anyway! Some are just not going to do the deed when their is disturbance aka you around. Some of them do seem to be uh, discreet! Others, sheesh, sex ed starts early in the Keys household...*sigh*
