I need HELP with a RETF

jend09 Sep 12, 2003 07:12 AM

I recieved my new RETF yesterday and was thrilled they are georgeous. I did a lot of research before I got them and had everything ready to go before they arrived. When they came yesterday they were both really lime green normal colorations from all the info I read. This morning one of them has turned a almost red/orange color. The other is still pretty green but not as bright and it looks like it may want to turn that red/orangeish color too. Is this normal? I am afraid that they may be bruised from the shipping(they were packed really well though) or are they just adjusting to their new environment. I didn't think RETF's changed color. They are also young ones so is this maybe just a growing thing. Help! I want to the best thing for them just not sure on this one.

I think you are fine. I often find mine that color as well in the mornings before I turn the lights on. They can turn that color from either lower temps or stress. It is very possible that it's a combination of both. What is your set up like? Temps, size, decore? I'm thinking it's just a little stress from adjusting to a new home. Just keep an eye on it and try to warm up the tank a little. Nest thing to do with new froggies is to leave them alone and keep out of their sight for a couple days to let them adjust.

Thanks, I was really worried. They are in a fully planted 15 gal. high tank with a small water fall for now. I am looking for a 30-40 gal. high tank now to move them to as they get bigger. I am getting a humidity gauge today but there is a little condensation on the back wall so I think the humidity is ok. The temp is between 77 and 79 during the day with the lights on and drops to between 69-72 at night with the red lights on. I guess he was just a little stressed, when I came home today he was back to green. I am going to leave them alone and let them settle in for a few days. Thanks for the info.

First time Amphibian poster, I just thought that this closely related to a problem I just experienced. I got a RETF two days ago, have a 15 gallon tank for it, very high humidity with the temp averaging around 83. There is dense shrubbery in there, a lot to hide in and a lot to climb on. He has gotten a significantly darker green than what he was two days ago, but I believe that my question was answered with this post. Let me know any other tips you or someone else may have for me, thanks!
