Pregnancy and Pythons!

reptilicus81 Apr 03, 2009 09:25 PM

Hi,

I just found out I am expecting a baby! We have a decent sized reptile collection, and I was curious if there are others out there who continued to care for their reptiles during pregnancy.

I currently am using gloves while cleaning cages, and always wash my hands and sanitize them after handling the reptiles or their cages. I use forceps to handle the f/t rats or mice, and I keep the floor and cages clean with a mild bleach solution.

Are their other precautions I should be taking?

Thanks,
Amy

I don't know of any you aren't already taking. However later on in your pregnancy, any lifting/bending etc may become more problematic...your OB/GYN should tell you when you should be reducing your physical activity and how much you bend or lift. Though you can always use the excuse of being pregnant to get the 'father' to do all the cage cleaning

Congratulations!!!!

As long as you are vigilant with your snake hygiene (wash you hands after handing them, take care when and where you are cleaning out tub and bowls, etc.) you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
