Eggs Layed Now what?

jam57 Apr 04, 2009 02:39 PM

I saw my Irians copulate but I didn't think she had taken till the other day when I saw her lying on her back. I thought it was unusual for her to refuse the last two meals but..... So I ordered an incubator. Problem is.... Eggs came yesterday. Is it ok to leave the eggs with her for the first week, then take them out and incubate them?? I will place then in the same position they are in in the incubator. I have bred lots of boas but these are my first eggs. --Jamie

She should be good for the next 55 days or so, LOL! I'm actually letting 3 of my girls incubate their own eggs this year, and so far, so good. I mist every couple days to keep the relative humidity up, and they do the rest. As long as she's not on a heat source, you shouldn't have any problems.

Good luck!

May also suggest using small tubs of water to help keep the humidity up

I've noticed that tubs of wet sphagnum moss are better at creating humidity than just water. more surface area allows more moisture into the air.

anything that extends out of the water to conduct moisture and act like a wick system. As Mike said, spagnum works well, or you can also use paper towels or cloth towels changed out every few weeks. The worst is a container of plain water as it has the absolute lowest rate of evaporation of any setup.

Thanks, I am still planning on pulling them as soon as the incubator gets here. I ordered the small hovabator. I will mist until then.
