Ambient room temperature controll

Omnivorous Apr 04, 2009 09:43 PM

I have been hearing a lot about keeping the ambient temp of my reptile room constant to help with my incubator and also for makeing it easier to keep temperatures constant in my enclosures. My reptile room doesnt need a cooler or AC at this point but it does get cold in there at night sometimes. I was thinking about getting one of those small room heaters or space heater to heat the room when it gets too cold. I dont have a lot of cash to hire a professional and get a nice wall thermostat and dedicated heater for the room so I was wondering if a ranco thermostat would be good for controlling the space or room heater? Or would you suggest a different thermostat. Like I said I dont have the cash right now to hire an electrition to hook up a nice home thermostat and I dont want to have the whole house heated. Just the room to save electric bill. I would get one of those safer heaters that you can touch and not get burned instead of one of those with an open heat sourse.

Johnson controls or ranco work fine for a radiant oil heaters, I use mine with the supplied rheostat set low and my heat devices to bring up temps.

So do you just plug it into the thermostat and hang the probe in the middle of the room in the air?

You can.

Or if you have a heat gun you can just measure the temps in the area and adjust the thermostat as necessary, disregarding the actual displayed reading.
