Parturation and the pre birth waxy poo

motorcycleguyr1 Apr 04, 2009 10:19 PM

My question is this... How long after the Pre birth waxy poo can it take for my girl to have the babies? The Boaphiles pamphlet I have says a day or 2. Another book I have says soon. Tonight will be the third night since the "waxy turd". I cant take it anymore. I get up every hour during the night to check on her. I calculated 105 days from her POS to be APR 6th. So that is her "due date". But she pooed what i believe to be the pre birth waxy stool 3 days ago. What is an average time for some of you guys??

12-48 hrs. for me, but these gals can't read. They often don't so what they are supposed to do according to the manual. LOL I wouldn't freak out just yet. If she gets active soon, that's a good sign. She should start cruising her cage, digging in the substrate looking for a place to depoist her young. I typically crumple a bunch of newspapers for her to dig into. If you notice her trying to pass something over a period of hours, really straining, and nothing comes out and its past the due date, then you might get a little concerned. She could possibly be bound. From my experience, although it isn't rare for a boa to get bound, it's not exactly common, or even likely unless she's bred previously and may have retained and unfertilized ovum from a previous year that is causing some blockage.

If you are only on day 105, I wouldn't be sweating, just still excited with anticipation!

Best of luck,

108 days post POS to calculate due dates. So for me, you're still a few days early even if that was a waxy stool. Plus I like my females to hold on to the litter up to the last day to reduce or eliminate the number of neos with unabsorbed yolks. It's a mental struggle for me; I am impatient and want to see the babies, but I know it's better if they hold them a little longer. I'm learning to be patient.... LOL

Best of luck, let us know how it goes!

If you didn't read, what The Boaphile wrote, to your Boa, how do you expect her to get it right? She will just do whatever she wants to do. So it could be a week.

Take a deep breath and relax. I know you CAN'T, just pretend like you are relaxed about it and quit checking every three minutes. It will happen soon... as somebody else wrote. That person is exactly right too you know. It will be soon.
