easier food to switch to than rats

ashlandthunder Apr 05, 2009 04:18 PM

My 3 snakes (300-550 gram) do not seem at all interested in rats. I got my 550 gram female pastel to eat 1 weaned rat after keeping it overnight with 4 mice. That has been the only time. Even if I rub mice all over the rats it doesn't work. Does anyone know if another food is closer in smell to a mouse? Gerbil, Hamster, etc.... My 7 year old normal pounds anything and everything. go figure. Oh, I am feeding them live, and I have tried different sized rats and they just seem clueless

May be you should try to feed them prekilled mouse at first. Then move to rats ? I am pretty sure it would be easier.

Don't feed the snake for 2-3 weeks and toss a rat in there. They'll eat.

(Before anyone jumps down my throat for the no feeding comment, we all know it won't harm the snake. I had a ball stop eating for 10 months once, then pick right back up again.)

...eats mice...feed mice........why not..??

......I have alot of huge balls that eat mice.....it's fine...get huge mice....

I had 6 foot jungle carpets...they ate nothing but mice....they were here 10 years....(gone)....that's alot of mice....but at 6 adult mice ,thawed and layed on paper in the tank and walk away...easy ....

balls....feed 3 large mice a week.....(once grown)...all good...

some people think they have to feed 20 mice a week....you don't.....(nor a large rat )....

You can also get a weaner rat (one that is within a week or so of coming of the nips and not used to eating food yet)leave it in the cage over night come back in the morning and you should have a start.

Please note: Never do this with a small rat or larger they can harm or even kill your animal.
