This guy is a bit jumpy but I managed to get a decent shot.

Flagstaff Az,
Nice looking striper, but that's a San Diego striper. Any striper from Corona would look a lot different. Was that sold to you as a Corona locale?
-----

As someone who as seen a lot of kings from corona and to the south. I questioned the locality of that striper too. Not that its impossible. It just did not look right.
Even if someone found it, a lot are released for whatever reasons. I would wait until you find several before I call that a locality type from Corona. I think it needs to be verified by finding more.
Sweet snake no matter what its history is. Cheers
I don't know if it was caught somewhere else and released in Corona but it was caught in Corona for sure.

No worries, I believe you. But I would try to duplicate that find. Otherwise, I have to question it.
I am sure many more bizzare reptiles have been found in Corona. Thats a big problem in areas like SoCal, where they literally tens of thousands of keepers. Most having no real interest or knowledge of what they are doing. Not in keeping, or releasing.
Even some experienced herpers DO NOT GET IT. They see no difference in locality. So kings are found there, so I will turn an unwanted one there. It does not matter where it came from. This is common unfortunately. Cheers
I would love to find another one!!!
A nice female to go with him.
The only others I found around that area are banded but I will keep trying.
Thanks guys

Like FR said, its not impossible for one to pop out like that I just see it being very unlikely. Its the "pure" speckling on the lower sides that ID that as a San Diego striper. There are still stripers in Riverside Co. with speckling but I've never seen one with pure speckling like that. Here are a few found several miles south of Corona.

If you find another in the same area with perfect speckling, I would consider them very likely releases. He's very nice though.
